The journalists of various print and electronic media said that on March 26, the reporter of Prothom Alo Savar, Shamsuzzaman Shams, made a report. In view of this, CID informants picked him from his rented house in Ambagan area of Ashulia early Wednesday morning.

Later in the afternoon we learn that Shams was shown arrested. A case has been filed against him under the ICT Act which is very sad and condemnable. We colleagues cannot accept a journalist being picked up like this. We want his unconditional release, they added.

Jamuna TV Savar representative Mahfuzur Rahman Nipu said that the process by which journalist Shams has been arrested was terrible.

“We want to say, if we have done wrong, it should be tried in legal process. These things are very scary for us journalists. So, I want the unconditional release of Shams immediately,” he added.

But we have spoken to various law enforcement officers. They all denied it. In such cases, we who do journalism feel unsafe.”
