Murder of school students: 2 teenagers arrested in Patuakhali

Police arrested two teenagers in a case filed over the murder of two school students over a senior-junior conflict in Patuakhali's Bauphal upazila on Friday.

The arrestees are Sifat, 14 and Soikat, 13. Both are ninth-grade students of a local school in the Bauphal upazila. 

Bauphal police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Al Mamun confirmed the matter.

Earlier on Friday, Nargis Begum, mother of Nafis, one of the victims, filed a murder case with Bauphal police station naming six teenagers, and five other unnamed individuals. 

The investigation will be handled by Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of the Bauphal police station.

A team led by  Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Bauphal Circle) Saheed Ahmed Chowdhury, conducted the drive on Friday morning to arrest Sifat from a watermelon field in Borhanuddin upazila of Bhola district and Soikat from his home in Indrakul village.

On Wednesday, the victims Nafis and Maruf were stabbed on their way home on the bridge next to the school by accused ninth-grader students. 

A police operation is underway to arrest others involved in the murder, said Bauphal Officer-in-Charge Al Mamun.

On March 20, students of class IX and X of Indrakul Secondary School got involved in a dispute. 

On Wednesday afternoon, after the farewell ceremony of the tenth graders, Nafis, Maruf and Siam were returning home when several teenagers allegedly attacked them.

Locals rescued them and took them to Bauphal Upazila Health Complex. After primary treatment, Nafis and Maruf were taken to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, where the doctors declared them dead. 

Siam is undergoing treatment at Bauphal Upazila Health Complex.
