Sonamasjid land port reopened for immigration after 3 years

Travel of passengers between Bangladesh and India through Chapainawabganj's Sonamasjid land port resumed on Thursday after remaining suspended for three years.

Indian Assistant High Commissioner in Rajshahi Manoj Kumar inaugurated the operation of the Sonamasjid checkpost by cutting a ribbon.

Passengers of both countries with passports will be able to travel through the checkpost from now.

A 25-member Bangladesh delegation led by Chapainawabganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Abdul Wahed went to India through the checkpost on the first day of reopening.

Travelling of passengers through the land port was stopped on March 15, 2020 due to the outbreak of Covid-19.

However, export and import activities through Sonamasjid land port remained normal even amid the pandemic.
