Khulna’s Munda community children given education aid

Sixty children from the marginalized Munda community in Khulna's Koyra Upazila were given educational tools on Tuesday as an act of encouragement.

Officials of the Global Development and Research Initiative (GDRI) handed out the tools during a function at Koyra Sundarbans Higher Secondary Girls' School. UNO Md Mominur Rahman attended the event as chief guest.

The tools include exercise books, pens, pencils and erasers. The students were joyful after getting the tools.

A guardian, Ashok Munda, said the poverty-stricken Munda families needed such aid and thanked the organizers for the initiative.

UNO Mominur hoped that such initiatives by NGOs and voluntary groups would continue in the future for the betterment of marginalized communities.

The headmaster of the school, Khairul Islam, and Ashasuni Government College Lecturer Md Rafiqul Islam were special guests at the event presided over by Baki Billah. GDRI Head of Program Ashikuzzaman moderated the function.

GDRI has been implementing various development programs related to education, health, social economy, climate change and agriculture in the country's southwest region since 2009.
