35 hurt in BNP-Chhatra League clash in Moulvibazar

A clash broke out between local BNP men and the ruling Awami League's youth organizations Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League in Moulvibazar on Saturday. 

At least 35 people from both parties have been injured during the clash. 

The incident took place at around 12:45pm when the BNP leaders and activists formed a human chain in the Central Shaheed Minar area to press home their 10-point demand. 

Chhatra League and Jubo League men also held a peace procession at around 12pm in the same area. 

Witnesses said that the Awami League men started to throw brickbats at the BNP men, which ensued the clash between the two parties. 

Meanwhile, Former lawmaker and Moulvibazar district BNP President M Naser Rahman was hit by brickbats under his eye. He was immediately taken to a local hospital. 

In this regard, Faizul Karim, senior vice president of Moulvibazar district unit BNP, their program was a part of the nationwide program of BNP. 

Awami League men suddenly started throwing bricks at our party men and 35 people were injured.”

Moulvibazar district unit Chhatra League President Amirul Hossain Chowdhury said BNP men made offensive remarks about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “They were asked to move from the Shaheed Minar area, but they did not. Hence, the clash took place.”

Moulvibazar Additional Superintendent of Police Hasan Md Nasser the situation is under control now. “Both parties were moved from the site. No complaints have been filed over the clash yet.”
