Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Abul Bashar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman has warned that industrial factories should be operated following rules.
“No one can run a factory breaching rules. Action will be taken in case of irregularities,” said the Chittagong DC.
He made the remark at the exchange meeting at Chittagong Circuit House on Monday.
In the meeting, the DC said that there was an explosion at Seema Oxygen Factory on Saturday. Eight months before this, there was also a massive explosion at the BM container depot in Sitakunda. Accidents are happening every year in Sitakunda. There are also fire incidents.
Most of these accidents are man-made. Very few are natural, he said.
Abul Bashar said: “We want to take a master plan to prevent accidents, the plan through which we can reduce accidents, through which the safety of the workers and the safety of the capital of the owners can be ensured. Apart from Sitakunda, industries are also being set up in Karnaphuli, Anwara, Mirershorai and Hathazari areas. We will plan with these areas too.”
Seven people died in Sitakunda oxygen plant explosion.
Besides, a total of 17 injured in the explosion are receiving treatment in different wards of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). One of them has been kept in the ICU.
The explosion happened around 4:40pm on Saturday. On receiving information, nine units of the Fire Service, army, RAB, police and volunteer organizations participated in the rescue work.
The explosion at Seema Oxygen Plant rattled neighbouring areas and engulfed them in thick black smoke. Locals said the massive explosion shook at least two square kilometres of the surrounding area.
Earlier on June 4 in 2022, BM Depot was the victim of an explosion that claimed 51 lives, including members of the fire services, and left more than 200 people injured.
