A man was killed after a metal object fell on him following the explosion that occurred at an oxygen plant in Chittagong's Sitakunda upazila on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Shamshul Alam, 65.
He was reportedly sitting at a shop in Kadam Rasul Bazar, which is about one kilometer away from the oxygen plant.
Alam's brother, Mowlana Obaidul Mostafa, told Dhaka Tribune that a metal object, weighing around 250-300kg fell on top of him. He died instantly on the spot.
Besides, several witnesses stated that different objects from the facility landed several kilometers away from the plant during the massive explosion.
The explosion at Seema Oxygen Plant had also rattled neighbouring areas and engulfed them in thick black smoke.
At least six people have been reportedly killed in the fire, and some 30 people have been injured.
Police have so far identified five of the victims. They are Shamshul Alam, 65, Md Farid, 36, and Roton Lakhret, 45, Md Abdul Kadir, Md Salauddin, 33.
The identity of another male victim has not yet been determined.
The incident took place at around 4:30pm, and nine units from the fire service managed to douse the flames at 5:40pm.
Locals said that the massive explosion shook the surrounding area by at least two square kilometers.
