Police on Wednesday arrested the headmaster of a school in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia on charges of making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The arrestee, identified as Abu Saleh, 50, is the headmaster of the local Kaya Child Haven Girls School.
He was arrested in the Kaya area of Kumarkhali upazila around 4:30am and sent to jail through court, said Md Mohsin Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kumarkhali police station.
Earlier on Tuesday night, Enamul Haque of the same area filed a case against Abu Saleh at Kumarkhali police station accusing the latter of insulting the Prophet (PBUH).
According to locals, the accused banned students from wearing burqas and encouraged them to wear caps.
In protest, some parents went to the school and asked the headmaster why the students were being pushed away from the teachings of Islam and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Then the headmaster allegedly insulted the Prophet. He also misbehaved with the guardians.
Later, local residents surrounded the school and demanded the headmaster be brought to justice.
