The police have arrested 23 leaders and activists of the Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chattra Shibir, during a meeting in Jessore's Putkhali union.
They were held late on Saturday in a raid by Benapole land port police.
The arrestees are residents of Putkhali union.
Kamal Hossain Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of the police station, said the leaders and activists of Jamaat and Shibir called the meetings to carry out anti-government activities and spread fear among the public.
At the time, police raided Putkhali village under the leadership of ASP Nishat Al Nahian upon receiving information that they were planning sabotage, he said.
Five cocktails were recovered from their possession, the OC added.
