A student killed herself in Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon district on Wednesday after learning that she could not pass the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination.
The deceased was identified as Afrin Akhter, 18, daughter of Jabed Ali, hailing from Atghoria village of Gedura union of the upazila.
Confirming the news, Tajul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Haripur police station said Afrin Akhter committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her room Wednesday afternoon.
She participated in the HSC examinations from DK degree college.
Chairman of Gedura union Tariqul Islam said: Afrin returned home after hearing the result on Wednesday. Her mother was praying and her father was not at home. Afrin hung herself from the ceiling fan of her room. Later, her younger sister found her. After her calling, everyone around came and brought her down. However, by that time, she was already dead.
Police have been sent to the scene, said the OC.
