Chhatra League locks cafeteria of Chittagong University hall

The leaders and activists of a branch of Chhatra League have locked the cafeteria of Suhrawardy Hall of Chittagong University for serving rotten, stale and dirty food on Sunday.

Chhatra League leader Afridi Rahman Mithu complained that poor quality food was being served in the cafeteria in an unsanitary environment for a long time.

He told Bangla Tribune: “We decided to take action after been hearing complaints for a long time. At about 1:15pm, we went to the cafeteria and witnessed a very unhygienic condition there and locked the place.”

“After a while we went to the cafeteria again. After opening the fridge, I saw that there was khichuri, fish and meat from a long time ago. Raw fish and meat and cooked curries are kept side by side. After that, I immediately locked the cafeteria. Later, at about 3pm, the cafeteria was opened again. We will file a complaint with the provost and the administration tomorrow (Monday)” he added.

Suhrawardy Hall Provost Shipak Krishna Debnath said they will sit and make a decision.

Cafeteria manager Ismail Hossain did not make any comment on the situation.

On September 1, 2022, the leaders and activists of another section of Chhatra League had locked up the same cafeteria on the complaint of unsanitary environment and poor quality of food. Later, in a circular signed by Provost Shipak Krishna Debnath, the cafeteria was opened with orders to clean it. Later again on August 7, 2022, authorities found evidence of serving food in an unsanitary environment.
