A group of unidentified cybercriminals have issued 133 birth certificates by hacking the official birth registration account of Lalkhan Bazar ward no 14 of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC).
Ward councilor Abul Hasnat Mohammad Belal said the matter came to light on Wednesday.
“Birth registration officials came to know about the issue of 133 birth registration certificates while working on Wednesday morning,” he said.
“Of these 133 birth registration, 35 were issued on Tuesday night and the rest in several rounds at other times. The matter has been reported to the IT department of the city corporation. A complaint will be made to the police station in this incident,” he added.
The councilor also said on Wednesday the birth registration officials got an instruction from the city corporation to change the password of the birth registration ID. While inspecting, they found 133 fraudulent birth certificates.
“The birth registration process will be closed for a few days from Thursday,” he said.
Earlier, hackers took control of the birth registration accounts of five other wards and issued fake birth certificates.
The Counter Terrorism Unit of Chittagong Metropolitan Police arrested four people on suspicion of involvement in this connection.
