Bhola 250-bed hospital gets new building

Health and Family Planning Minister Zahid Maleque inaugurated the new building of the 250-bed General Hospital in Bhola yesterday.

The seven-storey building was opened through a ceremony held at the auditorium of the hospital. Md Tamim Al Yamin, additional deputy commissioner of Bhola, and Dr KM Shafikuzzaman, the district civil surgeon, were present on the occasion.

Local people were waiting eagerly for the inauguration of the new building with hopes of improved health care in the district.

The construction project began in 2013 and was executed at the cost of Tk45 crore.

Joining the event virtually, the minister said that the current government had been carrying out various development activities in the health sector in the past 13 years. “People are coming to hospitals themselves as they are more aware about health issues now,” he added. 

The minister said each district of the country would get a medical college in phases, and the divisional medical college hospitals would be upgraded to 1,000 beds.
