Some 360 out of 1,130 sacks of rice, which were stolen from a warehouse sealed by a mobile court, were found on a road in Barisal's Sariakandi upazila on Thursday morning.
The matter has been informed to the police by the locals, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sariakandi police station Rajesh Kumar Chakraborty.
Later police confirmed that the rice was from the seized 1,130 sacks of rice by Bogra Executive Magistrate Jannatul Nayeem.
Upazila food officer has been informed, said the OC.
The seized rice was believed to be gobbled from the government's food-friendly program, during a mobile court operation at the rice warehouse of Shahin Alam of Bagber village of the upazila.
The trader failed to produce the necessary documents and was fined Tk50,000. In addition, the warehouse was sealed off, and Upazila Food Controller Atiqur Rahman was responsible for looking after it.
The warehouse was set up in an under-construction building with no doors and windows and surrounded by CI sheets.
On January 7, a man named Asabbar Fakir, 42, was arrested, with a truck that is believed to be used during the stealing.
On December 30 last year, Belal Hossain, 35, Rusat Fakir, and Raihan Kabir were arrested over the incident as well.
