Chilling cold continues in Nilphamari as mercury drops to 8.2°C

In the beginning of Bengali month Magh, the temperature dropped further in the northern district of Nilphamari.

Amid this, the chilling cold is disrupting daily activities.

The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 8.2°C at 9am on Tuesday in the district. At that time, the air humidity was 96% and the wind speed was blowing from the west at 5-6km per hour.

Due to the thick fog, long-distance heavy vehicles are moving with lights on during the day. There was hardly any traffic in the city. 

No one is going out of the house except for urgent work.

A 39-year old rickshaw-puller Saidul Islam said that even though it has been cold since last night, he went out with the rickshaw as he has to earn money to collect food for his children. There is no movement of people in the city amid this bone-biting cold. 

His daily income also has decreased this inclement winter.

Md Lokman Hakim, in-Charge of Saidpur Airport Weather Monitoring Center, said that the temperature was recorded at 8.2°C at 9am. The lowest temperature was recorded at 10°C on Monday morning.

Nilphamari Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Ghosh said: "On behalf of the district administration, 31,500 blankets have been distributed in six upazilas so far." 

He requested the government as well as NGOs and various private organizations to stand by the cold-hit poor people
