A former Chhatra League leader, Abdullah Al Masud, who lost his leg in a brutal attack by Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir eight years ago, has got a job at Rajshahi University after a directive was issued by the Prime Minister's Office.
Masud lost his leg in an attack carried out by Shibir activists on the Rajshahi University campus in 2014.
Following the instruction of the PMO, the Rajshahi University authorities appointed him as a store officer at the medical centre of the university with the rank of section officer.
He expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after joining work on December 22.
Masud also met Awami League Presidium Member and Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton after joining the job.
According to sources, on December 6, Director-7 of PMO Mir Tafeya Siddika in a letter to the vice chancellor of RU requested the appointment of Abdullah Al Masud as a section officer.
Masud said since his injury, RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton has been looking after him and has provided financial support for treatment.
Liton also requested the university authorities give Masud the job. But it was being delayed due to restrictions on recruitment.
“Later, I applied to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the job. I got a job at the university due to the greatness of the prime minister. Thanks and gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. I also express my thanks and gratitude to the Rajshahi city mayor,” Masud said.
Mayor Liton said that members of Chhatra Shibir at Rajshahi University attacked many leaders and workers of Chhatra League and cut the tendons in their hands and feet. Masud's foot was severed from the ankle.
“On behalf of the people of Rajshahi, I express my deepest gratitude and thanks to the prime minister for giving Masud a job,” he said.
