A patient died in the ambulance waiting in the Paturia ferry ghat area due to the closure of the ferry services on the Paturia and Daulatdia route of Manikganj because of dense fog on Sunday.
The deceased is Nazrul Islam Mandal, 65, son of late Nabi Mandal of Meherpur district.
He died while on his way to his village Meherpur after receiving treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha Office Manager Salam Miah confirmed the information to Dhaka Tribune.
According to BIWTC's Aricha office and sources related to the ferry terminal, due to thick fog, the ferry service was stopped on Saturia in Manikganj and Daulatdia in Rajbari from 2:30am on Saturday. At about 3am, Nazrul got stuck in Paturia number 4 ferry terminal. He died in the extreme cold at about 6am.
Salam Miah said that ferry services remained stopped due to heavy fog from Saturday 2:30am to Sunday 7:30am.
