A polling agent of a mayoral candidate in the Noakhali union parishad election was allegedly tied to a pillar by the district election officer on Thursday.
“It would have been better if they had killed me,” said the polling agent, Selim, for the reserved woman seat candidate of ward no 4, 5 and 6 of the union.
The incident took place at a polling centre of the Noakhali union at around 2pm on Thursday.
The District Election Officer Mesbah Uddin allegedly tied Selim up as he showed a woman voter how to use electronic voting machines (EVMs), reports Bangla Tribune.
In this regard, Selim claimed that he was only showing the woman how to use an EVM because the voters of the union had never used one before.
District Election Officer Mesbah Uddin refused to comment on the matter and said: “The returning officer is the moderator of the election. He will talk about it.”
Meanwhile, Mohammad Zulkar Nain, returning officer of Noakhali union parishad, said that this incident may have happened for a short time, but he does not know any details of it.
