380,000 children to get de-worming tablets in Khulna

Bangladesh will observe National De-worming Week 2023 from January 7 to January 12.

As part of a nationwide program, de-worming tablets will be given to 380,000 children in 9 upazilas of Khulna division.

The information was revealed during a meeting at the Khulna School Health Clinic on Wednesday.

Khulna Civil Surgeon Dr Sujat Ahmed presided over the meeting.

The speakers at the meeting spoke on the importance of de-worming tablets in the interest of child health. Over two thousand schools will be involved in the campaign in the week, they said.

The speakers also said that the success of the campaign will largely depend on the involvement of these educational institutions and hoped that the government's efforts in this regard will bring success.

Mebendazole 500mg will be given to children of 5 to 16 years, they said, adding that children from different madrasas and schools and the homeless will be brought under this campaign.

De-worming tablets are given to remove worms that develop in the intestines. These worms develop because of a lack of hand hygiene and also due to children's exposure to contaminated soil.
