BSF hands over body of Bangladeshi man after 7 days

The body of a Bangladeshi youth who was allegedly tortured to death by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) was handed over through the Benapole border in Sharsha, Jessore after seven days.

The deceased is Shahin Mia, 30, son of Shamsur Rahman of Putkhali.

Benapole Checkpost BGB Camp Commander Subedar Nazrul Islam confirmed the matter to Bangla Tribune.

BSF handed over the body to the BGB and Benapole Port police station after processing the documents of the two countries around 10:30pm on Thursday, he said.

According to locals, Shahin Mia illegally entered India on December 13. At that time, the BSF patrolling India's 158 Ghonar Math camp subjected him to inhumane torture after arresting him.

Later, they handed Shahin over to Bongaon police station. When Shahin fell ill due to physical torture, he was admitted to Bongaon Hospital on December 16.

He died on December 17 under treatment.
