What’s in the CHT tourism master plan?

The government has adopted an extensive and sustainable master plan for developing the tourism industry in three hill districts, having immense prospects.

Officials linked to the master plan say they are working on making the existing tourist spots more attractive and identifying new destinations.

Moreover, efforts are underway to increase coordination between tourism-related institutions and ensure safety of the tourists and the hill people.

Recently, the three hill district councils under the Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry have been tasked with developing the tourism sector in the CHT, officials say.

As part of the plan, 96 tourist spots have been identified in the three hill districts, and the places are brought under eight regions.

The Bandarban district has been divided into three clusters, which were decided based on various issues of the hills, including local food, diversity, infrastructure etc.

On December 11, lawmakers discussed the master plan at the seventh meeting of the first sub-committee under the Standing Committee on CHT Affairs Ministry at Bandarban Hill District Council conference room.

Three MPs attended the meeting as sub-committee members -- Deepangkar Talukder, Kujendra Lal Tripura and Mir Mushtaque Ahmed Robi.

At this time, Bandarban Army Region Commander Brigadier General Md Ziaul Haque, Chairman of Bandarban Hill District Council Kya Shaihla, Deputy Director of Bandarban Local Government Department Lutfur Rahman, and many others were present.

Abu Taher Mohammad Jaber, chief executive officer of the Bangladesh Tourism Board, said that they were working to ensure planned tourism in the CHT without harming the animals and plants of the hills.
