5 arrested for chopping off wrists of businessman

Members of RAB-15 have arrested five people involved in the sensational incident of celebrations after cutting off a businessman's wrists in Teknaf of Cox's Bazar.

Additional Superintendent of Police Md Abu Salam Chowdhury disclosed the information during a press briefing at RAB-15 Cox's Bazar Headquarters on Saturday afternoon.

Based on secret information, the suspects were arrested on Friday night by raiding Nazirpara area adjacent to Cox's Bazar-Teknaf highway.

The arrested are Dil Mohammad Kalu, 58, Nurul Haque, 38, Abul Kalam, 38, Syed Ullah, 36, and Jahangir Alam, 35, of the same area. 

On November 26 this year, a group of armed criminals led by local UP Member Enamul Haque in Nazirpara area of Sabrang Union of Teknaf severed the wrists of Siddique Ahmad, son of deceased Nazir Ahmad. They later celebrated the assault, which created a sensation across the country. 

The victim's son, Rashedul Alam, filed an attempted murder case with Teknaf police station.
