2 policemen injured in clash with Rajshahi Jamaat activists

Two policemen were injured on Tuesday in a clash between Jamaat-e-Islami activists, Awami League and police in Rajshahi's Kadirganj area. 

Mazharul Islam, officer-in-charge of Boalia model police station, said the Jamaat activists brought out a sudden procession from the New Market area in the afternoon protesting the arrest of their ameer, Dr Shafiqur Rahman. The procession passed through Kadirganj and ended at the Dorikhorbona intersection. 

When the Jamaat leaders and activists went towards the suburbs after the procession, local Awami League leaders and activists chased them with sticks, resulting in a clash. Both sides pelted stones at each other.  

On information, police rushed to the area quickly to control the situation and two policemen were injured in the process. 

The two injured policemen are Boalia police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Abu Haider and Constable Ahad.

They both are undergoing treatment, said the OC. 

Rajshahi Mahanagar Jamaat Secretary Emaj Uddin Mandal said they brought out the procession condemning the arrest of Dr Shafiqur Rahman. 

Regarding the clash, he said no such incident took place. 

In this regard, Rajshahi Metropolitan Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Media) Rafiqul Alam said intelligence activities have been increased after the incident.
