Sleeping policeman burnt to death in Habiganj house fire

A policeman was burnt to death in his sleep and three others were injured in a house fire in Habiganj district.

The fire broke out at a tin shed house in the district's Pool area on Tuesday morning, reports Bangla Tribune.

The deceased has been identified as Rubel Miah, 25, a constable of Habiganj traffic police, hailing from Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Habiganj Sadar police station Golam Mortuza said that five policemen used to in that house, however, one of them was on leave. 

Hence, four policemen were in the house that night, the OC said.

On information, a fire service unit reached the spot and brought the blaze under control, said Zakaria Haider, deputy assistant director of Habiganj fire station.

The three policemen were rescued and admitted to Habiganj sadar hospital, he added.

The fire service is suspecting that the fire may have originated from an electric short circuit.

Police are investigating the matter, said the fire service official.
