BNP leader held in Tangail sabotage case

Selimuzzaman Talukder Selu, the general secretary of the upazila BNP, was taken into custody by the police on Monday in connection with an explosives and sabotage case in Tangail's Bhuiyanpur.

In relation to the cocktail explosion and shooting in the upazila's Shialkol Bazar district, police had previously filed a case against 16 people along with 60 other unidentified individuals on December 1.

Upazila BNP Senior Joint Secretary Hafizur Rahman Shahin said: “On Monday, Selimuzzaman Selu sat in my shop to deliver the bail paperwork to the police station. The cops arrived and drove him to the police station. Later, he was taken into custody in connection with a sabotage case.”

Meanwhile, after he was arrested, Selu wrote on his Facebook page: "I came to give the bail paper and got arrested. Keep me in your prayers.”

Golam Mostafa, president of the upazila BNP said: “The police filed a false case to thwart BNP's rally in Dhaka on December 10. Earlier, the police arrested three more leaders and activists.”

However, Bhuiyanpur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Faridul Islam said: “No bail papers were submitted to the police station by the BNP general secretary. He was taken into custody from home. There was a sabotage case against him in the past. In that incident, he was detained. Other individuals involved in the case, however, have got bail from the High Court.”
