The police have arrested eight leaders and activists of the BNP in a case filed over sabotage by exploding a crude bomb and burning a tyre in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur on Thursday morning.
Sub-Inspector Kazi Abul Bashar of Boalmari police station filed the case on Thursday night mentioning 31 named and 50-60 unidentified people.
Police arrested the BNP men after conducting an overnight drive on Thursday.
The arrested BNP men were produced in a Faridpur court on Friday afternoon.
Sumon Kar, assistant superintendent of Faridur police (Modhukhali circle), confirmed the matter.
The arrested BNP men are Ataur Rahman Khan, vice president of Boalmari municipal BNP, Faridul Islam, upazila BNP member, Rafiq Biswas, president of municipal ward No 6 BNP, Hamidul Haque Bakul, Dadpur union BNP president, Siraj Mridha, Faridpur Jubo Dal leader, Barkat Molla, Shekhar union parishad member, Abu Nasir Mollah and Murad.
According to sources, miscreants burned a tyre and exploded a crude bomb-like object, creating panic among people in front of a brick kiln on the Majhkandi-Bhatiapara regional road of the upazila around 7am on Thursday.
On information, police visited the spot and recovered parts of the exploded bomb.
Besides, a Fire Service team doused the fire.
Police also fired 12 rounds of bullets in the air to bring the situation under control.
