Sreepur upazila Chhatra League on Tuesday filed a case against 23 named and 20/25 unnamed leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliates over a Molotov cocktail attack on some local leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League's student wing.
Sreepur upazila Chhatra League Convener Mahabub Hasan filed the case at Sreepur police station under the Explosive Substances Act, 1908.
Sreepur police station OC Mohammad Moniruzzaman confirmed the matter.
The accused in the case are Sreepur upazila BNP Organizing Secretary Muslim Uddin Mridha, Sreepur Chhatra Dal convener Ziaul Haq alias Rifat Moral, Chhatra Dal leaders Bappi Sarkar, Sajib Shikder, Sreepur municipality Jubo Dal Member Secretary Abu Taher Pradhan, Masum, Shipon, Salam Sheikh, Nazmul Sheikh, Al-Amin, Sreepur Jubo Dal Joint Convener Obaidur Rahman Mandal Sohail, Sohail Fakir, Sumon Ahmed Akand, acting convener of Sreepur upazila Jubo Dal Sarwar Hossain Sheikh, Masum, Momin Sarkar, Saddam, Salim, Alam, Robin Ahmed, Ifran, Tanveer, and Mubarak Hossain Shyamal.
The plaintiff, Mahabub Hasan, said 25/30 Chhatra Dal activists led by Sreepur upazila Chhatra Dal Convener Rifat Moral attacked the Chhatra League leaders and activists with sticks and rods at 11:15pm on Monday.
Three-four Molotov cocktails were used at the time, which injured four-five Chhatra League leaders including Hriday and Siam, he added.
The attackers fled from the scene when passers-by came forward to help. Meanwhile, the injured were rescued and treated at Sreepur Upazila Health Complex.
Organizing Secretary of Sreepur upazila BNP Muslim Uddin Mridha and the main accused in the case, Convener of Sreepur upazila Chhatra Dal Rifat Moral, said the allegations are completely false.
Sreepur police station Inspector Anishur Ashekin said upon receiving information, the police visited the spot at night. Five unexploded cocktails and parts of exploded cocktails were recovered from the spot. An operation to arrest the accused is underway.
