Case started over death of DGFI official in Bandarban

A case has been filed against 20 named, and some 35 unnamed individuals over the death of a Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) officer, who was killed in a shootout with drug peddlers in Bandarban.

Another DGFI official Anwar Hossain filed the case, said Bandarban's Naikhyangchhari police station OC Md Shahjahan on Saturday afternoon.

The accused are - Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) leader Ataullah Abu Ammar Jununi, Ostad Khaled, Moulvi Mostak, Moulvi Arif Ahmed Prokash alias Arfa Ahmed, Abdur Rahman alias Nabi Hossain, Jahid Hossain alias Lalu, Md Jubayer, Moulvi Shaker alias Maas, Md Imran, Md Hasan, Kaysar alias Saber, Md Alam, Rahman Karim, Jinnat Ullah alias Jannat Ullah, Moulvi Jakaria, Noman Chowdhury, Nur Alam Basia Moulvi Ali Ahmed alias Moulvi Akiz, Nur Kamal, Borar Bhaai alias Nazib alias Abdul Wadud. 

Sources said that most of the accused are members of Arsa and Rohingya from Myanmar.

They are all accused of killing, kidnapping, drug smuggling, robbery, and other crimes at Naikhyangchhari and Cox's Bazar. 

The case was registered against the drug smugglers in Bandarban's Naikhyangchhari police station on Wednesday.

In this regard, Sohag Rana, the investigating officer of the case, actions will be taken after an inquiry is conducted.

A DGFI officer was killed and a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) member was injured during a clash with drug peddlers in Bandarban's Tombru border area on November 14.

The martyred officer was a Bangladesh Air Force official, said a press release by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). 

The shootout took place when the members of the DGFI and the RAB conducted a joint anti-drug drive in Tombru area.

The same day, another Rohingya woman was killed while the RAB official was reportedly injured during an infighting between security forces and Rohingya insurgent groups in Konapara Rohingya camp, no man's land in Naikhyangchhari of Bandarban.

Officials from RAB-15 in Cox's Bazar conducted a raid at the border area that evening to prevent smuggling.
