Faridpur doctor arrested over links with militant organization

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) arrested a Faridpur doctor, who went into hiding some 10 days ago, over links to the banned militant organization Ansar al-Islam.

He was arrested on Wednesday from Dhaka's Jatrabari, said CTTC Additional Deputy Commissioner Ahmedul Islam.

The arrestee, Faridpur's Bhanga Upazila Health Complex Medical Officer Dr Zakir Hossain was produced before a court on Thursday.

The court granted a two-day remand for Dr Zakir Hossain, the CTTC officer added.

On November 8, Dr Zakir sent a text message to his colleagues before disappearing, and since then his mobile phone was switched off.

Dr Zakir also sent a text to his wife saying his phone may die in some time as he could not charge his mobile phone.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhanga police station Ziarul Islam said two GDs were filed with Bhanga police station regarding the disappearance of doctor Zakir Hossain.

“One was filed by his father-in-law and another by one of his colleagues Bhanga Upazila Health Complex Family Planning Officer Dr Mohsin Uddin Fakir,” the OC added.

In this regard, Dr Mohsin Uddin Fakir said: “I got to know Dr Zakir was arrested from Dhaka. He is a member of a banned militant organization.”
