Faridpur-2 by-polls: 10 injured in clash following victory processions

At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two groups of boat supporters during their victory procession after the Faridpur-2 by-polls results were announced in Saltha upazila on Saturday.

The attack took place at Bhabukdia village of Gotti union of the upazila at around 5:30pm.

According to police and locals, there has been a long-standing dispute over establishing dominance between Gotti Union Chairman Fazlur Matin Badsha's son Pavel Raihan and Sekendar Molla with Ward No 9 member Murad and Ibrahim Molla.

There have been several clashes over this in the last few years.

Supporters of both sides took out victory processions after the by-election results, and as they marched towards the same destination, a clash took place.

Pavel Raihan claimed that supporters of Murad Molla and Ibrahim Molla had attacked their procession first.

However, Murad Molla denied the attack and said, "I am a disabled person. Why would my supporters attack them?”

Meanwhile, Sekendar Molla said that he was not in the area during the clash.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Sadiq of Saltha police station said that a police team was sent to the area after law enforcers were informed of the clash. “The situation is now under control.”
