Ex-chairman among 11 sued over murder of UP member

A case was filed again 11 people including a former UP chairman at Bhandaria police station on Monday midnight in connection with the murder of UP Member Mamun Howladar in Pirojpur.

Mehdi Hasan Rajib, the son of Mamun Howladar, filed the case at Bhandaria police station, naming Gazi Siddikur Rahman, former chairman of Sialkathi union parishad of Kaukhali upazila of Pirojpur, as the key accused along with 11 named and 4/5 unnamed people.

The police later arrested the motorcycle driver of the deceased, Md Sajal Jomaddar, 28, and Mamun alias Tak Mamun, 45. Bhandaria police station OC Masumur Rahman Biswas confirmed the matter.

According to the case statement, Mamun Howladar was hacked to death in broad daylight on Monday morning because of past enmity over Sialkathi UP polls.

On Monday, around 11 am, UP member Mamun Howladar was going to Sialkathi Union Parishad on a motorcycle. On the way, when he reached the road adjacent to North Vitabaria Azaharia Islamia Dakhil Madrasa, a group of 10/12 men dropped a tree on the road, stopped his motorcycle, severed his leg with a sharp weapon then threw it into the nearby pond and stabbed his face with a knife. They then left him on the side of the road.

Sialkathi UP chairman Delwar Hossain Sikdar said Mamun Howladar was a UP member elected 3 times consecutively. He is popular in the area.

Masumur Rahman Biswas, OC of Bhandaria police station, said the operation to arrest the other accused is continuing.
