6 injured in clash between Tangail Awami League factions

Six activists have been injured in a clash between suuporters of the local MP and the upazila Awami League unit president In Tangail's Bhuapur.

The incident took place on Saturday during an extended meeting of the upazila Awami League unit to ensure the success of the Tangail district Awami League conference on November 7.

Supporters of Tangail-2 MP Tanveer Hasan Chhoto Monir and Bhuapur Awami League unit President Masudul Haque Masud locked in a fierce battle over seats in the party headquarters that left six people injured.

Upazila Awami League President and Municipal Mayor Masudul Haque Masud said: “I was holding an extended meeting to make the Tangail district Awami League conference a success. Meanwhile, the terrorists led by MP Chhoto Monir attacked and injured 6 people.”

Tanveer Hasan Chhoto Monir, a member of parliament from Tangail-2 Constituency, refuted the allegation and asserted that there were no bad blood between him and Masud. 

During the extended meeting, there were no unpleasant events. Outside, though, there was a small commotion among the activists, he added.

Bhuapur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Faridul Islam said police were present during the conference to prevent any untoward situation. Following the clash, the situation was brought under control.
