Journalists in Kushtia have condemned the police's visit to slain local reporter Hasibur Rahman Rubel's house with an arrest warrant.
Rashedul Islam Biplob, president of the Journalist Union Kushtia and Kushtia Press Club, said that everyone in Bangladesh knows that Rubel was murdered.
“Why the police are unaware of Rubel's death? The police are just playing a ruse on journalists here,” he added.
He also condemned that the police are yet to arrest the killers of Rubel and recover the motive of the case, but they were ready to go and arrest a dead man.
On Saturday, ASI Asad of Millpara police outpost went to Rubel's house with an arrest warrant issued by a court.
Later, the officer was informed by the slain journalist's family that he was killed. Rubel's family members also claimed that the police later wanted to check his death certificate, which they received.
When asked about the incident, Kushtia Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Delwar Hossain Khan that there was an arrest warrant issued against Rubel's name over some issues related to cheques.
When the police team was provided with the death certificate, they submitted a report to the court accordingly.
On July 3, Kushtia correspondent of Daily Amader Shomoy newspaper Hasibur Rahman Rubel went missing from his office.
On that day, Rubel's younger brother Mahbub filed a general diary with the Kushtia Model police station.
On July 7, Rubel's decomposed body was found under Jaduboyra Bridge in Kumarkhali.
After this, Rubel's uncle Mizanur Rahman filed a case with Kumarkhali police station.
Local journalists of Kushtia erupted in protest and staged several rallies, human chains demanding the arrest of Rubel's killers.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police so far detained three people suspected of being involved with the murder.
