At least seven people were injured after the gas cylinder of a covered van exploded at a filling station in Gazipur on Thursday.
The incident took place at around 6pm at Haji Wahed Ali Sarker Filling Station on the Dhaka-Mymensingh road.
The injured were identified as Al Amin, Shirajul, Parvez, Anwarul, Azizul, Mithu and one unidentified individual.
Witnesses said a covered van was filling gas in a cylinder, which was at least five feet in height. At that time, the cylinder exploded, and the covered van instantly caught on fire.
Dhaka TribuneIqbal Hasan, senior station officer of Tongi Fire Service and Civil Defence said seven units brought the fire under control at around 8:30pm.
There were a total of 100 cylinders inside the covered van, he added.
The injured were rushed to Tairunnessa Memorial Medical College and Hospital, but were later referred to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for better treatment.
Mainul Islam, a doctor in the emergency department of Tairunnessa Memorial Medical College and Hospital said that three of the injured suffered more than 80% surface burns and two others suffered 60% and 40% burns.
