20 including women, children assaulted in Khulna restaurant

At least 20 members of a journalist’s family, including women and children, were allegedly assaulted at a restaurant in Khulna after the celebration of Mohaashtomi.

Victims said the restaurant owner of “Hotel DS Palace” closed the doors and attacked the family members. They have also alleged that the employees snatched jewellery from the women.

Journalist Uttam Sarkar said they had booked the restaurant beforehand and as planned the family members went there to eat on Monday night.

When the power went out, they asked for a generator, but the restaurant employees refused to provide that. When they also refused to give candles, an argument took place.

He added: “After a while, the employees themselves broke some plates and locked the restaurant’s doors.”

Sarkar added that he later called National Emergency Service 999, and Khulna police station SI Tipu Sultan.

In this regard, the officer said: “After being notified of the matter, we sent a team and rescued the victims. Legal action will be taken after a complaint is filed.”

Meanwhile, the restaurant Manager Md Nasim said he was not on duty on Monday night, hence he is unaware of the matter.
