27 hurt in Jubo League, Swechasebak Dal clash in Faridpur

At least 27 leaders and activists of Swechasebak Dal were injured in a clash with followers of Jubo League in Faridpur district town on Wednesday afternoon.

The clash took place in Ombika memorial hall in the town.

The leaders of Swechasebak Dal claimed that around 50 leaders and followers of district unit Jubo League led by its convener Ziaul Hasan Mithu and 20 no ward councilor Motiur Rahman Shamim attacked them with locally made sharp weapons.

M M Zilani, central president of Swechasebak Dal, and Yasin Ali, central vice-president, were on the stage during the attack. But the attackers threw them out of the hall without hitting them.

Julfikar Hossain, convener of district unit Swechasebak Dal, said that the attack was carried out in front of their central leaders.

At least 27 leaders and followers of their party were injured in the attack.

He said that they took permission from the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police for the meeting.

However, Ziaul and Shamim denied the allegation of the attack.

Ziaul said that Jubo League men gathered in the hall to celebrate the birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“We had no idea that the meeting of Swechasebak Dal was going on there,” he said.

Jubo League men allowed them to go out of the hall room safely, he added.

On information of the attack, a team of Kotwali police station led by officer-in-charge M A Jalil visited the spot.

Confirming the attack, the OC said that the situation is under the control of the police.
