Clinic owner, doctor flee as patient dies after operation

An owner and a doctor of a local clinic in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur went into hiding after the death of a young man following an operation in the hospital early Saturday.

The victim was Ruhul Amin, 30, son of Abdur Rob Matubbar in Tripagdi area of the upazila. 

The incident took place at Desh Clinic in the upazila in the morning, said Md Ziarul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bhanga police station.

Quoting the victim's family members, the police officer said that nose polyps specialist doctor Md Maruf Shahriar conducted the polypus operation to remove polyps from Ruhul’s nasal passageways.

However, the patient died after the operation.

Following the death, the clinic owner and the doctor ran away from the clinic, keeping the body beside a road in front of the clinic, alleged the family members.

On information, police recovered the body. 

The OC also said that they found the clinic locked.

The patient’s family members staged a demonstration in front of the hospital.

Dr Mohosin Uddin Fakir, health and family planning officer of Bhanga upazila, said that they have heard about the incident. However, they have yet to receive a complaint from the patient’s family member.

Once they receive a written complaint from family members, action will be taken upon investigation after talking to the civil surgeon of Faridpur, he added.
