As part of sustainable development, the Sylhet region needs to improve nutrition for the poor and coordinate disaster management, experts have said.
FCDO and the European Union-funded Suchana program organized an advocacy workshop with the Local Governance Support Project- Phase 3 (LGSP-3) project and Union Parishad chairman in Sylhet on Thursday.
Md Mozibor Rahman, deputy commissioner of Sylhet was the chief guest while deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Jonmejoy Datta, and President of Sylhet Press Club Iqbal Siddiquee, were the special guest.
Md Mamunur Rashid, deputy director, Local Government, Sylhet District chaired the workshop.
Program Director at Suchana Arif Ahmed and Deputy Program Director Mohammad Ali Reja also spoke at the event.
The deputy commissioner said that Union Parishad bodies will continue their work to fight against malnutrition and disaster as they did during the recent floods in Sylhet.
He also mentioned that different innovative techniques implemented by the Suchana program have been very effective at the community level and hoped that it would continue for a longer period of time.
The Suchana program is being implemented in Sylhet and Moulvinazar districts since 2015 with the goal of improving the food and nutrition security of the poor through improvements in their economic condition
