2 drug peddlers held after gunfight with police in Gazipur

Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers, after a gunfight with the law enforcers in Gazipur on Thursday.

The arrestees were identified as Abdul Aziz, 45, son of Atar Ali and Sohel Chowdhury, 27, son of Abdur Rahman.

The gunfight injured one of the arrestees, Aziz, said Abu Sayem Nayan, deputy commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) on Friday.

On the other hand, a police constable was injured after he was hit with an iron pipe during the fight.

Acting on tip off, two teams of police officers went to the East Bhurulia area of Gazipur. After sensing their presence, the drug peddlers opened fire. 

The law enforces also fired back in self-defence, said the deputy commissioner. 

Police managed to arrest Aziz and his accomplice Sohel, after he (Aziz) was shot in one of hs legs.

The deputy commissioner added that there were more than 10 cases filed against Aziz, and multiple cases against Sohel in different police stations.

A foreign pistol with bullets, several yaba pills and heroin were seized from them. 

The injured were were admitted to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital.

A case has been filed at Gazipur Sadar police station in this incident.
