A mobile court has fined the chairman of Bagmara Maria Union Parishad in Rajshahi Tk30,000 for using electricity illegally for a long time.
Rajshahi District Administration Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Rifat fined him on Monday afternoon.
Accused Rezaul Haque is also the brother of engineer Enamul Haque, a member of the Parliament of Rajshahi Bagmara-4 Constituency.
According to sources of the Palli Bidyut Office, the UP chairman was using the electricity of Natore Palli Bidyut Samiti illegally for a long time from his home connection in Shikdari Bazar to his few shops along with battery operated auto charging factory.
In this regard, the officials of Bagmara Zone of Natore Palli Bidyut Samiti repeatedly urged him to stop the usage, but he reportedly denied the order by showing his power.
Later, local people informed the Rajshahi district commissioner (DC) about the incident.
A mobile court was conducted under the direction of DC Abdul Jalil to verify the authenticity of such allegations.
Then Rezaul Haque was fined Tk30,000 and the illegal connection was disconnected in the operation led by Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Rifat.
Abdullah Al Rifat said: "No one is above the law. Rezaul was fined and warned for using electricity illegally. According to the Electricity Act 2018, this fine is levied. After that, strict action will be taken against him if he commits such a crime."
