A man was assaulted in a police station on Saturday in Manikganj after he sought justice over his five-year-old daughter's attempted rape case.
The assaulter, an assistant sub-inspector at Shivalaya police station, was withdrawn following the incident.
The assaulted man said he filed a written complaint on August 14 over the attempted rape of his daughter by a local Awami League member’s cousin Rojjob Khan.
As the law enforcers did not take any steps regarding the matter, he went to the police station with his daughter and mother on Saturday to seek the case’s progress.
At that time, the ASI question, Arif Hossain, took the man into a room and assaulted him while keeping Shivalaya unit Awami League member Mannan Khan on phone.
“At one point, when I fell on the floor, the ASI asked me to run away from the police station,” he added.
After the incident was reported, Arif Hossain was withdrawn from his post, said Manikganj Shivalaya Circle Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nurjahan Laboni.
Efforts are underway to arrest the accused named in the complaint, she added.
The man’s mother said: “When my son was being beaten in the police station, my granddaughter and I begged the other officers to help him. But no one listened to us.”
On July 20, Rojjob Khan attempted to rape the man’s five-year-old daughter in Manikganj.
However, he was caught red-handed by the child’s grandmother.
