Chittagong journos attacked on court premises

Two Jamuna Television journalists were beaten up by lawyers in Chittagong on their way to Chittagong Court to collect news.

The incident occurred in front of the court building area in Chittagong city on Wednesday noon.

Jamuna Television reporter Al Amin Sikder and video journalist Asaduzzaman Limon were injured in the attack and were taken to a private hospital in Chittagong.

Asaduzzaman Limon said: “We were going to the court to gather news. When the driver saw people in front of our car at the lawyer's building area, he honked the horn. The lawyers present arrived and began arguing. At one point they attacked us.”

Meanwhile, the Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) strongly condemned and expressed anger over the attack on Jamuna Television reporter and video journalist.

The president of the organization Mohammad Ali and general secretary M Shamsul Islam demanded exemplary punishment by arresting the culprits in the incident.

The demand was made in a statement signed by CUJ Publicity and Publication Secretary Iftekhar Faisal on Wednesday evening.

The statement said that attacks on journalists are being repeated. If action is not taken against the culprits immediately, a movement will be called with journalists across the country.

Meanwhile, Chittagong District Bar Association general secretary Zia Uddin said that the incident happened due to misunderstanding of some lawyers. Those who commit such incidents will be punished.
