Authorities have decided to include Saint Martin's Island, Bhasan Char, Sandwip, and Maheshkhali in the proposed “Smart Society” project.
The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on Thursday at Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC).
A detailed discussion on the proposed “Smart Society” project, as well as the current status of the “Digital Island Maheshkhali” project, took place.
Smart Society project aims to provide high-speed internet, smart education, public healthcare, agriculture, as well as e-commerce facilities for farmers, and international weather forecasts.
A special emphasis was also placed on training teachers, doctors, nurses, and government officials in information technology for the project.
BCC Executive Director Ranjit Kumar, International Organization for Migration Senior Regional Migration Assistance and Protection Specialist Peppi Kiviniemi-Siddiq, among others, were also present at the meeting.
