A daily wage earner in Barisal has won accolades and hearts for his honesty after returning to its owner the Tk1.90 lakh he recently found in the Bscic area of the city.
Shankar Kumar Saha, the owner of Sugandha Flower Mill located in the Bscic area, was overwhelmed after getting back his hard-earned money on Tuesday night and thanked the daily wage earner for his honesty.
The daily wage earner refused to reveal his identity, Ward No 2 Councillor AKM Martuza Abedin said.
On August 6, Shankar received the money from one of his clients in the Bscic area. Later, he left that place taking the money in a shopping bag.
As he was riding his bike at that time and the road in the area was full of potholes, the money fell out of the bag.
Footage from all the shops that have CCTV cameras on his way was subsequently checked but to no avail.
A reward was also announced if the money was returned.
Later, the daily wage earner informed the councillor about the money and handed it over to him.
Councillor Abedin said the money was handed over to its owner at his office on Tuesday night.
