Death toll in Mirsharai train accident rises to 12

A teenager hurt in last month’s collision between a train and a microbus in Mirsharai upazila of Chittagong has succumbed to his injuries, taking the death toll to 12.

Hayatul Islam Ayat, 17, breathed his last in the ICU of Chittagong Medical College Hospital at 2:30pm on Friday. He was supposed to take this year’s SSC exams.

Ayat's uncle Farooq Ahmed said he had been undergoing treatment in the ICU for four days.

One of the injured had been discharged from the hospital and the others were still receiving medical care there, CMCH police outpost ASI Alauddin Talukdar said.

On July 29, 16 people including some teachers and students of R&J Coaching Center went to Khoiyachara Waterfall on a microbus. 

On their way back, the microbus got on the railway track at an unmanned level crossing around 2:30pm and was hit by the Chittagong-bound Prabhati Express, leaving 11 people dead on the spot.
