Chhatra League leader accused of snatching wigs worth 16L

A Comilla Bangladesh Chhatra League leader has been accused of being involved in the mugging of eight bags of wigs worth Tk16 lakhs from a local company.

Sajidul Alam is the former joint secretary of the BCL’s Comilla district unit.

Police arrested Sajidul’s cohort Ashraful Islam, the autorickshaw driver involved in the mugging, on Monday around 8pm.

According to Burichang Police sources, on Friday around 11am, a “Yakin Human Hair Processing and Supply,” autorickshaw carrying eight bags of wigs, was on its way to Comilla when the vehicle was stopped by some men posing as law enforcers.

They beat up the driver and took the wig-laden battery-run autorickshaw.

Later, they transferred the wigs to another autorickshaw in Agangar area and sent that autorickshaw to Kanthangar.

Following the incident, Humayun Kabir, the owner of the company, filed a complaint with Burichang Police.

Later police recovered the CCTV footage in the area to identify the mugger and tracked down the autorickshaw driver who was with him.

Based on information provided by the arrestees, police recovered the wigs and the motorcycles and autorickshaw used during the incident.

Burichang OC Maruf Rahman said that police were still searching for Sajidul Alam.
