Police have detained three people over the murder of Bulbul Ahmed, a student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust).
All three were arrested on Tuesday night, Sylhet Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Azbahar Ali Sheikh told Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.

Abul and Mohammad were arrested on information provided by Kamrul, DC Azbahar said.
Meanwhile, detained Abul Hossain gave a confessional statement on Wednesday evening.

He was produced before the court with tight security on Wednesday.
Police on Wednesday also recovered the knife used in the murder of Bulbul Ahmed and his mobile phone set in Sylhet.
The knife and the mobile phone set were recovered from the house of Kamrul Hossain, 30, a mason of the area who was detained in connection with the murder.
Kamrul also confessed to his involvement in the murder, said Azbahar.
“Based on his information, police recovered the knife and the mobile phone after conducting drive at Kamrul’s house around 11am,” he added.
The police official further said: “So far, five people have been detained. The investigation is still going on. After investigation, those who are involved will be shown arrested in this case. So, the total number of arrests cannot be confirmed now.”
“After interrogating them separately, we received important information,” said the deputy commissioner.
He, however, did not say anything about the identities of other detainees.
The deceased, Bulbul Ahmed, was a third-year student of the Department of Public Administration of the university.
On Monday night, a case was filed at Jalalabad police station over the murder.
According to the case statement, Bulbul, along with his friends, went to the New Zealand area, adjacent to Shaheed Minar, on the campus Monday afternoon.
At one stage, his friends rescued him as he was stabbed by muggers.
Bulbul was first rushed to the university medical centre and later shifted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital where on-duty doctor Kaniz Fatema declared him dead around 7:45pm.
Besides, the authorities concerned of Sust formed a five-member probe body to look into the death.
According to sources, Bulbul was a member of the Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Sust unit.
