More remains have been recovered a month after the blast at the BM Container Depot in Chittagong’s Sitakunda upazila.
A skull with burnt remains was recovered from the depot around 4:15 pm while cleaning the inside of the depot, said Sumon Banik, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sitakunda police station.
“The body has been sent to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for a DNA test,” he added.
However, the exact number of the remains could not be confirmed without a DNA test, said Brig Gen Shamim Ahsan, director of CMCH.
He mentioned that only certain parts of the body are coming to the hospital. “Along with the previous bodies, the remains are kept in a freeze.”
A fire and subsequent blasts at BM Container Depot at Sitakunda killed 49 people and injured over 200 people on June 4.
At least 10 of the deceased were firefighters.
