Flash flood: Flights suspended at Sylhet Osmani airport

Flight operations at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet have been suspended due to flood water approaching the runway.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Airport Manager Hafiz Ahmed said that the floodwater is moving closer to the runway with time.

He added that some water-related equipment has also been submerged in water. “Five flights were operated at the airport from Friday morning till noon.”

Osmani Airport is located at a distance of about 7km from Sylhet city.

As many as five upazilas including Sylhet sadar upazila and three upazilas of Sunamganj have been completely flooded since last Tuesday. 

The army has been rescuing the waterlogged people since the morning.
