Police on Monday detained a beggar family from Bogra for their involvement in abducting a two-year-old.
The law enforcers rescued the child, Saimon, from Bogra 18 days after he was abducted from Gazipur’s Kashimpur upazila, said Kashimpur police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Hanif Mia.
Beauty Akhter, 30, and the couple’s daughters Halima Akhter, 10, and Fatema Akhter, 8, were detained from Sherpur upazila of Bogra.
Meanwhile, Kamal was held from Dhaka’s Ashulia.
SI Hanif said the family is known for carrying out many illegal activities, including kidnapping and theft. The detainees have confessed to the crime after primary interrogation, he added.
Police later sought a seven-day remand for Beauty Akhter, but the Gazipur court granted two days.
On May 26, the family went to Simon’s house in Gazipur, and abducted him when his family was not around.
Five days later, on June 1, Simon’s father, Hasan, filed a case with Kashimpur police station.
